Sending email
Write and send mail, schedule it for a later time, and undo a send within a few seconds.
Start a message from the New message button at the top of the rail, the c key, the ⌘K palette, or Reply on any message.
Sending is on the paid plan. On the free tier you can read and organize two mailboxes; add a card to compose, reply, and forward. See Plans & billing.
Write and send
Pick which account you're sending from at the top of the window, add people in To (and Cc / Bcc when you need them), a subject, and your message, then press Send or ⌘↵. The recipient fields suggest people you've written to before as you type, and the subject and body are spell-checked as you go. Click a flagged word to fix it.
Mail goes out over your account's own mail server, and a copy lands in your Sent folder, so it reads the same in every app. When it's on its way, a short confirmation appears with a link straight to the message in Sent.
Set a default sending account for new messages under Settings → Inbox. Replies always come from the account that received the original.
Everyone you write to is saved for autocomplete. Review or remove saved addresses under Settings → Contacts.
Formatting and attachments
Format your message when it helps: bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough, bulleted and numbered lists, and links, from the toolbar above the body. Add an image inline with Insert image and drag its corner (or pick Small, Medium, or Full) to size it in place.
You don't pick a format. Mailhopper sends what your message needs — write a plain note and it goes out as plain text; add any formatting (bold, a list, a link, an inline image) and it sends as HTML, with a plain-text copy included for apps that prefer one. The same goes for replies: the format follows what you write, not the message you're replying to.
Press Attach to add files, up to 25 MB total per message. A few executable file types are blocked for safety. Attachments also ride along when you forward a message.
On mail you receive, attachments are listed under the message and download with a click, and inline images show in the body once you've loaded remote content. See Reading a message.
Reply, reply all, and forward
Open a message and choose how to respond:
- Reply answers the sender from the account that received the message.
- Reply all answers the sender and every other recipient.
- Forward passes the message on, carrying its attachments.
Replies quote the original and thread with it, so the conversation stays together.
Drafts
A message you don't finish is saved to your account's Drafts folder when you close the compose window: press Esc, switch views, or click away, and it's kept. Reopen it later from the Drafts folder to pick up where you left off. To throw a draft away instead, use Discard.
Send later
To hold a message for a better time, press Schedule in the compose bar. A row of times opens above it:
- Later today and This evening
- Tomorrow AM and Tomorrow PM
- This weekend and Next week
- Pick a time… for any date and time you set
Choose one and the Send button becomes Schedule · your time. Press it to queue the message, or press the caret next to it to change the time. To send right away instead, press Unschedule.
Scheduled mail is sent by Mailhopper's servers, so it goes out on time even if your computer is asleep or the tab is closed. Preset times use your own time zone.
Undo a send
Every send waits a few seconds before it leaves, so you have a moment to catch a mistake. Right after you send, a bar appears with an Undo button — press it (or Z) and the message reopens for editing.
Choose how long the window lasts, or turn it off, under Settings → Inbox → Undo send (off, 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds).
Manage scheduled messages
Open Scheduled in the rail to see everything waiting to go out. On any message:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Edit | Reopens it in compose so you can change anything. |
| Send now | Sends it immediately instead of waiting. |
| Cancel | Takes it out of the queue and reopens it as a draft. |
If a scheduled message can't go out at its time (an expired mailbox sign-in, say), Mailhopper keeps it, marks it in Scheduled, and emails you. Nothing is sent by surprise, and nothing is lost.
Send later and Undo send work with both password and Gmail accounts.
